Narrative reconstruction of events in novel translation: A case study of the English translation of Xuemo's works

This study investigates how translators reconstruct narrative events in novel translation, using the English translation of Xuemo's works as a case study. The findings indicate that translators add events (detailed conflicts, background explanations, narrative beginnings) to mitigate cognitive disparity among target readers by providing necessary cultural knowledge. They also restructure event sequences, prioritizing emotional events and reinstating chronological order to align with target readers' habits. Reorganization of interconnected events based on thematic and character considerations enhances readability. The research highlights the significance of event reconstruction in novel translation and offers implications for translators and scholars.
