Abstract
This study uses a multi-model approach to assess the land footprint (LF) and water footprint (WF) of food consumption in the European Union (EU). The EU's LF is estimated at 140–222 Mha yr⁻¹ and WF at 569–918 km³ yr⁻¹, representing 5–7% of the global LF and 6–10% of the global WF of agriculture. The study highlights inconsistencies in calculating the LF for livestock grazing, emphasizing the need for a standardized methodology to monitor EU's Farm to Fork Strategy goals.
