Abstract
This meta-thematic study investigates quality indicators in early childhood education and care (ECEC) and contextual factors influencing quality perception. Analyzing 14 qualitative or mixed-methods papers from 11 countries, the study identified 16 ECEC quality indicators, synthesizing them into five key themes: child-centeredness, teacher qualifications, ECEC center culture and atmosphere, holistic development, and leadership. Contextual factors influencing quality perception include cultural values and beliefs, the degree of educational system centralization, and stakeholder expectations.
