Abstract
This systematic review and meta-analysis investigated the placebo and nocebo effects on weight loss in adults. Preliminary trends suggest placebo effects, with slightly greater BMI and body fat reduction in placebo groups compared to controls. A nocebo effect was hinted at in one study, where expectancy of oral weight-loss agents was disadvantageous. More research is needed due to the limited number of studies.
