Abstract
Typhoon Bavi (2020) became the strongest typhoon in the East China Sea (ECS) in a decade, fueled by a marine heatwave causing SST exceeding 30°C. Shallow water depth (41 m) and strong salinity stratification suppressed typhoon-induced SST cooling, enhancing heat flux to the typhoon. Interestingly, the heatwave's rapid development was partly attributed to the typhoon itself due to fair weather conditions ahead of it. This study highlights the interaction between typhoons and marine heatwaves under climate change.
