La traduction des métaphores, des répétitions et la traduction onomastique dans la version anglaise de L'enfant noir de Camara Laye
Y. J. Waliya and A. A. Ajimase
Translation is both a technical craft and a natural gift: this study examines Camara Laye's L'Enfant noir — the first French-language sub-Saharan novel of the colonial era — and argues that faithful English retranslation requires deep cultural, traditional, social, political, economic and religious knowledge. Using onomastic analysis and identifying metaphors and repetitions, the authors critique existing unfaithful French–English renderings and suggest a retranslation. Research conducted by Yohanna Joseph Waliya and Angela Awhobewom Ajimase.
