Abstract
This article challenges the current understanding of human culture's relationship with social learning by examining instances where experts intentionally prolong knowledge acquisition. Analysis of ethnographic data from apprenticeship and hunter-gatherer societies reveals that while enhanced learning facilitation is crucial, mechanisms to extend learning are equally vital for cultural creativity and innovation. The study suggests that an exclusive focus on enhanced facilitation provides an incomplete picture of human culture and its social context.
