Abstract
This study explored the connections between music and mathematics as perceived by four groups of experts: professional mathematicians and musicians, and teacher educators in these two fields. Using a 2 × 2 study design, semi-structured interviews revealed differences between the four groups. Theoreticians highlighted mathematics as a tool for music analysis and creation, while educators emphasized music's role in learning mathematics. All participants valued structure, beauty, wonder, freedom, and creative thinking in both fields and supported integrating them into various disciplines. The study suggests future research on integrated music and mathematics modules.
