This study investigated the use of 2D ultrasound imaging to quantify transverse muscle oscillations in the soleus muscle during walking and running at various speeds. Increased vertical impact forces at faster speeds correlated with changes in both magnitude and frequency of soleus muscle oscillations. Faster running showed higher frequency components in oscillations compared to slow walking. This research establishes ultrasound imaging as a method for examining muscle oscillation responses to impact forces.
