Impact of the degree of agricultural green production technology adoption on income: evidence from Sichuan citrus growers

Y. Liu, R. Chen, et al.

This study reveals how adopting agricultural green production technology can significantly boost the income of citrus growers in Sichuan Province, China. By examining 805 farmers, the research highlights essential factors like yield, sales price, and costs that contribute to this positive impact. This innovative work, conducted by Yuying Liu, Rubin Chen, Yufan Chen, Tinglei Yu, and Xinhong Fu, provides crucial insights for policy makers aiming to advance green agricultural practices.

Abstract
Enhancing farmers' adoption of agricultural green production technology (AGPT) is crucial for the green transformation of agriculture. As additional income is the primary motivation to adopt AGPTs, clarifying how the adoption degree relates to income can facilitate adoption. Using data from 805 citrus farmers in Sichuan Province, this study employs the inverse probability weighted regression adjustment (IPWRA) model to examine the impact of AGPT adoption degree on farmers' income and its mechanisms. Findings indicate: (1) A higher degree of AGPT adoption yields more pronounced income gains—using 1, 2, and 3 AGPTs increases citrus sales income by 7.1, 10.5, and 19.8 percentage points, respectively; (2) Income increases occur via higher yields and sales prices, offsetting cost increases; (3) Market channels and operating scales moderate revenue effects; (4) Education, health status, and cultivation area significantly affect AGPT adoption. Policy recommendations are proposed to guide promotion of AGPTs and advance agricultural green transformation.
