Abstract
This study investigated the genetic and behavioral associations between childhood visual acuity, cognitive skills, and educational attainment. Researchers examined a longitudinal cohort of British children (ALSPAC, n=6807) and performed a genome-wide association study (GWAS, n=5571) on visual acuity. Results showed a positive association between visual acuity and cognitive performance, school grades, and a higher polygenic score for educational attainment (EA). A GWAS revealed associations at the NPLOC4 locus and other genes involved in sensory function. The findings suggest a complex interplay between genetics and environment in shaping visual acuity and its relationship with educational outcomes.
