Abstract
This study investigated the relationship between help-seeking duration (HS-DU) for first non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) and the frequency of NSSI and suicide attempts at a 1-year follow-up in a cohort of adolescent outpatients. Results from 285 adolescents showed a significant decrease in self-harm between baseline and follow-up. However, HS-DU for NSSI, suicidal thoughts, or suicide attempts was not significantly associated with self-harm at follow-up, suggesting that intervention can be effective even with delayed help-seeking.
