Heart Rate Variability, Blood Pressure Variability, and Baroreflex Sensitivity in Overtrained Athletes

M. Baumert, L. Brechtel, et al.

An abrupt 2-week training camp in ten healthy track-and-field and triathlon athletes produced marked reductions in heart rate variability and baroreflex sensitivity—shifting autonomic balance toward parasympathetic inhibition and sympathetic activation—with most effects reversing after 3–4 days of recovery. HRV and BRS monitoring may therefore help detect and avoid overtraining. Research was conducted by Authors present in <Authors> tag.... show more
