Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disease with progressive cognitive decline and neuroinflammation. This review explores the role of gut microbiota and their metabolites in modulating AD, focusing on how the microbiome and metabolites affect brain function. It examines changes in gut microbiome diversity and composition in AD patients and animal models, discussing pathways by which gut microbiota and metabolites regulate AD. The review also investigates the potential for dietary interventions to manipulate the gut microbiota and delay AD progression, acknowledging the challenges in translating findings into dietary guidelines or clinical therapies.
