Exploring the profound link Breastfeeding's impact on alleviating the burden of breast cancer -A review

P. I. Obeagu and U. Getrude

This insightful review conducted by PhDEmmanuel Ifeanyi Obeagu and Uzoma Getrude delves into the protective effects of breastfeeding against breast cancer. It highlights the dose-dependent relationship supported by epidemiological evidence and discusses the biological mechanisms at play, such as hormonal changes and tumor subtype impacts. Discover how supporting breastfeeding can significantly influence public health outcomes!

Abstract
This review explores the relationship between breastfeeding and breast cancer risk reduction. Epidemiological evidence shows a correlation between breastfeeding and lower breast cancer risk, with longer durations showing a dose-dependent effect. Biological mechanisms include hormonal changes (decreased estrogen) and the elimination of damaged cells during lactation. Breastfeeding also seems to impact tumor subtypes, particularly reducing the risk of hormone receptor-negative and triple-negative breast cancers. The review emphasizes the public health implications and the need for support and policies to promote breastfeeding.
