This paper models the effect of measures to reduce aviation's climate impact on global warming, performing a bottom-up analysis of potential technical improvements and challenging assumptions of sector targets. The authors conclude that, despite emission targets aligning with the Paris Agreement, aviation's climate impact is unlikely to meet these goals, even considering feasible technological advancements and sustainable aviation fuels. This conclusion holds across various COVID-19 recovery scenarios.
