Abstract
This paper investigates the impact of COVID-19 lockdowns and subsequent mobility changes on property crime rates in Tamil Nadu, India. Using a 10-year dataset and an auto-regressive neural network model, the authors analyze the causal impact of lockdowns on robberies, burglaries, and thefts in both rural and urban areas. The findings reveal a significant decrease in property crimes during lockdowns, followed by a surge when restrictions were lifted, highlighting the relationship between mobility and crime rates.
