Abstract
This paper uses a network-based approach to analyze the spatiotemporal evolution of homicides in the Monterrey Metropolitan Area (MMA) in Mexico from 2011 to 2018. The authors analyze homicide time series, spatial correlations, yearly co-occurrence networks, and the relationship between homicides and road infrastructure. Key findings include a lack of distance-dependent correlation between neighborhoods, a high number of homicides near the 85th freeway, and the influence of socioeconomic barriers on homicide patterns. The study provides a detailed description of the spatial and temporal evolution of homicidal crime in the MMA during a period significantly impacted by the Mexican Drug War.
