J. Pearson-stuttard, T. Banerji, et al.

This groundbreaking research by Jonathan Pearson-Stuttard and team reveals the compelling relationship between obesity-related complications and rising healthcare costs in the US. Over an eight-year study, they found that as complications increase, so do costs, particularly in outpatient care. Discover the financial implications of chronic conditions like kidney disease and diabetes!

Abstract
This study investigated the relationship between obesity-related complications (ORCs) and healthcare costs in a large US cohort. Adults with obesity (BMI 30–<70 kg/m²) were followed for eight years. Annual healthcare costs increased with the number of ORCs, with outpatient costs being the largest contributor. Specific ORCs like chronic kidney disease and type 2 diabetes showed significant cost increases over time. The presence of three or more ORCs was a significant cost driver.
