Recent controversies surrounding the teaching of critical perspectives in US K-12 schools, particularly concerning diversity, race, gender, and sexuality, have led to attacks on critical curricula. This study uses a knowledge mobilization framework to examine which knowledge is being restricted and why. Findings indicate that policies in 16 Republican-dominated states restrict teaching critical perspectives on race, sexuality, and other controversial subjects, perpetuating a positive view of US history. The study highlights the prevalence, nature, and consequences of these educational policies.
