Abstract
This research investigates credential inflation in Chinese universities' hiring practices. Analyzing 159,752 faculty resumes from 802 universities, the study confirms credential inflation, particularly among domestically educated faculty in elite universities. Conversely, those with overseas education gain employment at higher-ranking institutions, with this advantage increasing over time. The findings highlight a devaluation of domestic and appreciation of overseas qualifications in Chinese academia.
