Abstract
This qualitative study explored the challenges faced by pregnant women and postnatal mothers in accessing Maternal and Child Health (MCH) services during the COVID-19 pandemic in Odisha, India. The study, conducted from February to April 2021, involved in-depth interviews with 36 antenatal and postnatal mothers across various districts and blocks. Two main themes emerged: access to MCH care and the pandemic's impact on the lives of MCH recipients. Challenges included restricted mobility, transportation issues, fear of COVID-19 infection, long wait times at health facilities, and increased financial burdens. Community health workers (CHWs) provided crucial support, but systemic issues hindered access to services for some. The study highlights the need for context-specific policies to ensure continuous MCH care during health emergencies.
