Abstract
This qualitative study investigates the challenges faced by Japanese middle school teachers in supporting the career decisions of students with social, emotional, and behavioral difficulties (SEBD). Eighteen special needs teachers participated, revealing three key themes: difficulties in determining students' future trajectories, difficulties in collaborating with stakeholders (parents and students), and teachers' considerations of what is important in career guidance. The findings highlight the impact of societal stigma surrounding SEBD on career choices and underscore the need for further research to improve support for teachers, students, and parents in this area.
