Abstract

This study investigates the rise of female Go players in Korea using descriptive analyses of demographic data, Elo ratings, and competition statistics, along with social representation analyses from in-depth interviews and core-periphery analysis. The study finds a significant increase in female representation, performance, and financial rewards within the Korean Go community. Key contributors to this success are identified as economic incentives, societal and cultural shifts, and institutional support. The research highlights strategies for fostering gender inclusivity in traditionally male-dominated fields.
