Abstract
This preregistered cluster-randomized clinical trial investigated whether a validated AI system for diabetic eye exams increases clinic productivity. 105 clinic days were randomized to either intervention (using AI; 51 days, 494 patients) or control (no AI; 54 days, 499 patients). The primary endpoint, productivity among diabetic patients, was significantly higher in the intervention group (1.59 encounters/hour) compared to the control group (1.14 encounters/hour), representing a 40% increase (*p* < 0.001). The secondary endpoint (overall productivity) also showed a significant increase. Autonomous AI significantly increased healthcare system productivity.
