Attachment to robots and therapeutic efficiency in mental health

Social robots can improve mood, cognitive capacities, and overall quality of life. This Perspective systematizes the possible roles these robots can play in mental health care and argues that client–robot attachment is a fundamental ingredient of any helping relationship — with optimal outcomes when attachment strength fits the relationship type.
