Abstract

This meta-analysis investigated the association between psoriasis and the risk of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Seven cohort studies were included, encompassing 738,104 psoriasis cases and 3,443,438 controls. Pooled analysis revealed a significantly increased risk of CKD (HR 1.65, 95% CI 1.29-2.12) and ESRD (HR 1.37, 95% CI 1.14-1.64) in psoriasis patients. Subgroup analysis indicated that the risk was higher for patients with severe psoriasis, particularly for ESRD (HR 2.72, 95% CI 1.70-4.34). Potential mechanisms discussed include inflammation, drug-related effects, and chronic renal damage. Limitations include the reliance on electronic health record databases and heterogeneity in study designs.
