This study investigated the association between a Mediterranean-style eating pattern and diabetes risk in a large, nationally representative U.S. cohort of black and white men and women. Higher adherence to a Mediterranean-style diet was associated with a lower risk of diabetes, particularly among Black participants and those with normal BMI. These associations were attenuated after adjusting for behavioral and clinical factors.
