This study investigates socio-demographic risk factors for COVID-19 deaths in Sweden using data on all recorded COVID-19 deaths up to May 7, 2020, linked to individual-level background data. Survival analysis reveals that being male, having less income, lower education, and not being married independently predict a higher risk of COVID-19 death and death from all causes. Immigration from a low- or middle-income country predicts higher COVID-19 death risk but not death from other causes. The study highlights the unequal burden of COVID-19 on the most disadvantaged.
