Abstract
This paper presents a modular plug-and-play system for microfluidic cell culture, addressing the challenges of highly integrated monolithic chips. The system uses a fluidic circuit board (FCB) to connect multiple microfluidic building blocks (MFBBs) in a standardized fashion, enabling flexible alterations to the design and parallel operation. The authors developed an FCB with an active function (an MFBB enabler) to control mLSI MFBBs selectively, showcasing its versatility by controlling both mLSI and dosing MFBBs simultaneously. The system’s ability to culture human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) is demonstrated.
