Abstract
This paper presents a qualitative review of existing studies to examine the evolution of the innovation concept from a higher education perspective. It highlights the gap between the higher education system and the industry/business sector's pace of innovation, focusing on the application of Open Innovation (OI) principles. The paper proposes a higher education service life cycle framework for academics based on the needs for innovation, accessibility, and global integration.
