Abstract
Carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae (CPE) are drug-resistant pathogens posing a critical threat. This paper presents MDM Carba, a magnetic digital microfluidic (MDM) platform for rapid CPE identification by measuring carbapenem hydrolysis. MDM Carba uses droplets as reaction chambers, manipulated by magnetic force, enabling automation and reduced reagent use. Testing 27 isolates, MDM Carba showed sensitivity and specificity comparable to the Carba NP test, offering potential for faster diagnosis and improved clinical outcomes, particularly in resource-limited settings.
