📖 About the International Writers Workshop

Founded in 2004, the International Writers’ Workshop (IWW) at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) has hosted over 150 writers from more than 60 countries. The 2027 Writers-in-Residence Programme will take place from 26 February 2027 to 25 March 2027 and will culminate in the IWW Literary Festival with the theme of “Inheritance”.

Applicants are encouraged, but not required, to address how their work connects to this theme.

🎁 Benefits of the Programme

Participants in the International Writers Workshop will receive the following:

• Roundtrip economy class airfare.
• Accommodation on HKBU’s campus for 4 weeks.
• A per diem allowance.

✅ Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the programme, applicants must:

• Have at least one published literary book with a press (self-published books are ineligible).
• Currently reside outside of Hong Kong.
• Have a functional command of English or Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese).

Residency Programme Requirements

Participants are required to:

• Attend the entire residency from 26 February 2027 to 25 March 2027.
• Attend the Welcome Ceremony during the first week.
• Participate in the Literary Festival during the final week. Writers are encouraged to share a piece of writing in conversation with the festival’s theme.

📝 Application Process

Applicants must submit the following materials:

1. A 1-page, single-spaced Artist’s Statement in English or Chinese describing your work and writing goals for the IWW Writers-in-Residence Programme. If the statement is in Chinese, include a 1-paragraph summary in English.
2. 10-12 pages of recent work, such as creative nonfiction, digital writing, drama, fiction, graphic forms, libretti, or poetry. If the original work is not in English or Chinese, provide a translation.
3. A CV or resume.
4. Contact information for two referees, including their email addresses.
5. Ensure all application materials are formatted in 12-point type with 1-inch margins.

• Combine all application materials into a single PDF.
• Email the PDF to iww@hkbu.edu.hk.
• Application Deadline: 14 August 2026.
• Applicants will be notified of the results by November 2026.
