This study examines the bibliometric features of researchers receiving special mention in Colombia's prestigious Alejandro Ángel Escobar Prize (AAEP) and compares them to AAEP awardees. It analyzes citation trends before and after receiving recognition and employs a composite citation indicator to assess impact. Results show no overall 'halo effect' post-award, suggesting recognition follows established productive careers. No clear distinction emerged between special mention recipients and awardees, offering a more inclusive framework for evaluating scientific elites in developing countries.
