Why people follow rules
S. Gächter, L. Molleman, et al.
Across four online experiments with 14,034 participants, the CRISP framework reveals that 55–70% of people conform to an arbitrary costly rule even when anonymous and alone. Intrinsic respect for rules and social expectations explain most rule-conformity, alongside extrinsic incentives and pro-social motives. Research conducted by Simon Gächter, Lucas Molleman and Daniele Nosenzo.
