Abstract
This paper argues that the limited singing capabilities of female AI voices like Siri, Alexa, and Sophia reflect underlying cultural narratives that simultaneously fascinate and frighten. These narratives enforce misogynistic stereotypes by maintaining age-old stereotypes about singing women, programming virtual assistants to be servile, and encouraging ridicule to downplay the fear associated with female singing voices. The paper explores these narratives through historical examples and analysis of YouTube responses to AI singing, suggesting that addressing these cultural biases is crucial for the future development of female vocality in AI.
