Abstract
This study analyzes 2852 short videos from Douyin accounts of Chinese central and local news agencies (2018-2023) to understand visual propaganda dynamics on social media. Central agencies prioritize military, police, and firefighting themes, evoking anger, disgust, fear, and intolerance. Local agencies emphasize "livelihood warmth," portraying individuals without explicit political affiliations and using anticipation, acceptance, and respect. The findings highlight the influence of political authority on the content and emotional resonance of political short videos within a hierarchical system.
