This review article highlights recent advancements in using visible light to activate the antiviral and antimicrobial properties of TiO2 nanoparticles in paints and coatings. The focus is on new developments for frequent-touch surfaces in hospitals and other settings, aiming to prevent the spread of infectious diseases. The article discusses doping TiO2 with various metals and non-metals to lower its band gap, enabling visible-light photocatalysis. Various doping strategies and their impact on photocatalytic activity and durability are explored, along with applications in paints, coatings, and textiles.
