Abstract
This study uses network science tools to quantitatively assess the extent of psychology's multidisciplinarity and how it has changed over time. Citation networks were constructed from articles published in Web of Science's "Multidisciplinary-Psychology" journals (2008-2018). Results show a consistent distribution of citations across Multidisciplinary-Psychology, other Psychology subfields, and other disciplines, indicating stable multidisciplinarity. Module detection in citation networks, followed by co-word network analysis of keywords, revealed persistent and transient research themes. The study discusses strategies for fostering multidisciplinary research.
