Abstract
This study reveals an unprecedented decline in Arctic sea ice export through Fram Strait in 2018, reaching less than 40% of the 2000-2017 average. This minimum export is attributed to regional sea ice-ocean processes driven by anomalous atmospheric circulation over the Atlantic sector of the Arctic, highlighting that drastic changes in Arctic sea ice outflow can occur not only through Arctic-wide ice thinning but also through regional atmospheric anomalies.
