This study investigates the unequal impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on researchers in Chile and Colombia. An online survey of 3257 researchers revealed that after accounting for disciplinary differences, gender and care responsibilities significantly influenced the reduction in research time. Women experienced greater reductions than men, particularly those with children under 12. Women supporting traditional gender roles and with children experienced the most significant reduction. The study concludes that universities and research centers should implement targeted policies to mitigate these unequal effects.
