This scoping review examines the literature on transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) protocols used in schizophrenia and their effects. Fourteen studies were included, five of which were randomized controlled trials. tACS showed good tolerability with mild, transient side effects. Results suggest potential reductions in hallucinations and delusions using alpha tACS, and improvements in negative and cognitive deficits with theta and gamma tACS. However, larger, rigorous studies are needed to confirm these preliminary findings.
