Abstract
This paper proposes a principled approach to studying dance as a communicative form, using classical ballet as a case study. It integrates linguistics, communication studies, social semiotics, and multimodal analysis to bridge the gap between physical movement (captured via motion capture technology) and discourse interpretations. The methodology links movement data with narrative interpretations, enabling empirical research using methods from linguistics and related fields.
