Topological assessment of recoverability in public transport networks

This paper introduces a topological approach for evaluating the recoverability of public transport networks (PTNs) after disruptions, modeled as topological perturbations. Recoverability, the ability to return to original performance levels, is assessed in 42 metro network graph representations, considering infrastructure and service characteristics (travel time, waiting time, transfers). Results show a strong correlation between recoverability and topological indicators; efficient, denser networks, and those with more redundancy, better withstand and recover from disruptions.
