Abstract
Current scholarly evaluation mechanisms are unsustainable and corrosive, relying on limited proxy measures that fail to recognize the dependencies of a healthy scholarly ecosystem. This essay argues for a values-enacted approach to research production and evaluation, aligning values with practices, recognizing enriching processes, and grounding quality indicators in adherence to advocated values. This approach has the capacity to reshape higher education culture.
