Abstract
This article analyzes the proposed Code of Conduct for Research (CCR) in South Africa, submitted to the Information Regulator for approval. While the proposed CCR addresses several issues from previous drafts, it leaves unresolved concerns regarding data identifiability, data repurposing for commercial use, and the establishment of open-access genomic databases. Additionally, a new, legally unsustainable exception for genetic data is introduced. The authors recommend revisions to address these issues before approval.
