Abstract
This review aimed to document the meaning of the phrase "no bed syndrome" in the Ghanaian context, how and why it occurs, and potential solutions. A qualitative desk review using thematic synthesis of grey and published literature, print and electronic media (January 2014 to February 2021) was conducted. "No bed syndrome" describes hospitals turning away emergency patients due to lack of beds, sometimes resulting in death. The situation is most acute in Greater Accra, driven by contextual, health system, value, and priority factors. Solutions have been fragmented, requiring whole-system reform.
