This study investigates the long-term effects of paid maternity leave on educational attainment and adult height in 29 developing countries between 1990 and 2019. Using data from the Demographic and Health Survey (DHS) and the World Bank's Women, Business and the Law 2021 file, the analysis reveals that an additional week of paid leave is associated with a 0.007-year increase in educational attainment and a 0.056 cm increase in adult height. These findings are robust to various sensitivity analyses and suggest a compelling case for enforcing and extending paid maternity leave policies.
