Abstract
This paper investigates the relationship between university library environment, student interaction, and student learning engagement among Chinese college students, considering differences between liberal arts and science majors. The study, based on a survey of 45 Chinese universities, found that the library environment significantly impacts learning engagement, mediated by student interaction. However, this mediating effect is stronger for science students than liberal arts students, for whom the library environment's impact is more direct. The findings suggest that library design and renovation should cater to the diverse needs of different disciplines and promote student interaction to enhance overall learning engagement.
