This article examines the development of children's autonomy and the role of paternalistic intervention in education. It argues that children possess a degree of autonomy, even at a young age, based on their capacity for rational thinking and willpower. The article further explores the compatibility of children's autonomy with paternalistic intervention, analyzing this relationship through the lenses of children's choices, respect for autonomy, and future-oriented education. Finally, it proposes the concept of 'reasonable paternalism,' which emphasizes moral equality between children and adults, a child-centered approach, and active child participation.
